It\u2019s Give + Take = Compromise and YOUR Happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#004d7f\">They say there are unwritten rules of Mediation . . . Really? I thought it might be good to write them, so here are mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/olsenmediation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Mediation10-1024x694.jpeg\" alt=\"Mediation Is Give + Take = Compromise\" class=\"wp-image-378\" style=\"width:823px;height:558px\" width=\"823\" height=\"558\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><strong>A Good Thought To Start With . . .<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#004d7f\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>WHAT THEY\u2019RE TALKING ABOUT IS NOT WHAT THEY\u2019RE TALKING ABOUT<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IF A PARTY KEEPS REPEATING THEMSELVES, THEY DON\u2019T FEEL LIKE THEY\u2019RE BEING HEARD. FEED BACK WHAT THEY\u2019RE SAYING<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PARTIES CAN\u2019T GO BACKWARDS &amp; FORWARDS AT THE SAME TIME. IF A PARTY IS STUCK IN THE PAST &amp; CAN\u2019T MOVE FORWARD, THERE IS AN UNDERLYING EMOTION THAT NEEDS TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED FIRST. REFLECT THEIR EMOTIONS<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>INTERESTS ARE THE FLIP SIDE OF EMOTIONS<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>WHEN IN DOUBT SUMMARIZE<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>THE PARTY WHO MAKES THE FIRST \u201cGIFT\u201d &#8211; I.E. CONCESSION, APOLOGY, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE OTHER PARTY\u2019S VALUE \u201cWINS\u201d (I.E. COMES CLOSEST TO THEIR GOALS)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>YOU CAN BE HAPPY, OR YOU CAN BE RIGHT &#8211; YOU CHOOSE<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SOMETIMES THE RIGHT ANSWER AT THE WRONG TIME IS THE WRONG ANSWER. IF A PARTY IS NOT EMOTIONALLY ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD, TRY TAKING A BREAK. IF THAT DOESN\u2019T HELP, SUGGEST ADJOURNING &amp; REGROUPING FOR ANOTHER SESSION, POSSIBLY WITH A SUPPORT PERSON<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>THE MEDIATOR SHOULD NEVER BE WORKING HARDER THAN THE PARTIES<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DON\u2019T LET YOUR DESIRE TO BRING PEACE TO THE PARTIES\u2019 CONFLICT DIMINISH YOUR GOOD WORK. SOMETIMES GIVING THE PARTIES A SAFE AND<\/strong> <strong>RESPECTFUL SPACE TO TALK, WILL TAKE SOME TIME BEFORE THE PARTIES CAN MOVE FORWARD<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#004d7f\">I&#8217;m here to help . . .
