Steve’s peers elected him as Bar Association President in Jefferson County and Kitsap County.
He was recently honored to receive the Kitsap County Bar Association Humanitarian Award for his volunteer work with Kitsap Legal Services (providing legal advice and representation to indigent clients), and Kitsap Dispute Resolution Center (as a Mentor Mediator and instructor).
Both of these non-profit organizations have honored Steve with awards for his valuable contributions in time and experience. These include the joint Justice For All Award and the Bunny Stumbo Award (Bunny was a Mentor Mediator and instructor at Kitsap DRC).
For Decades, the courts and attorneys have had Steve appointed as Guardian ad Litem; because they trust him to make thorough & impartial investigations and reasoned recommendations in the most difficult cases that come before the Court. Those same courts have appointed Steve as a Judge pro-tem; because they know that their courts are in good hands when Steve is on their bench

Steve has been Mediating since 1995. He has successfully mediated over 400 cases. He has over 1,000 hrs of mediation training – many as an instructor. He judges mediation competitions at Seattle University Law School. He is a member of Washington Mediation Association; which is the only organization in Washington that has mandatory training and experience requirements.
In over 40 years of practicing law, Steve has seen it all:
- He has seen how destructive trials can be.
- He has seen attorneys make things worse.
- He has seen how Judges rule
- He has seen how parties settle.
- He has seen many miraculous transitions in parties that have been in conflict for years; by helping the parties let go of their negative past & visualize a future without the conflict.
A Mediator with Steve’s experience can give parties realistic expectations of what would happen if they decide to litigate. He can also share how other parties have come to resolutions involving similar issues. Steve’s wealth of experience helps the parties trust that they are in good hands.
Steve has been a member of several charitable Boards of Directors. He has been President of the Jefferson and Kitsap County Bar Associations. Steve’s work, and contributions to the Kitsap County community have been recognized by:
